Defra release latest statistics on the packaging regulations. These
show that the UK is broadly on course to achieve its recovery and
recycling targets in 2004. Glass recycling in the first quarter
of 2004 is higher than expected, whilst steel recycling is slightly
lower. However, industry experts warn that seasonal variations (for
example glass recycling after Christmas) can cause quarterly figures
to fluctuate.
Producer registrations are down overall from 6,374 registrations
to 6,209. Complypak membership bucks the trend, increasing from
69 in December 2003 to 85 in April 2004.
